Share because you care this Child Safety Week!

Katrina Phillips, Chief Executive, Child Accident Prevention Trust

Child Safety Week (7–13 June) is the Child Accident Prevention Trust’s annual community education campaign – prompting thousands of safety conversations and activities.

Sharing trusted, practical safety advice with families saves lives and has never been more important - 1 in 9 emergency hospital admissions for Scottish children are due to an accident.

Additionally, 80% of accidents to under 5s are in the home, with children from the poorest families more likely to be killed or seriously injured. New research by Glasgow University reveals how under 5s living in disadvantaged households are more likely to suffer severe and multiple injuries in the home.

That’s why this Child Safety Week (Monday 7th – Sunday 13th June), CAPT have made it easier than ever before for people to share because they care – passing on valuable safety knowledge to families to build resilience and help keep children safe.

Visit the Child Accident Prevention Trust website to see the new downloadable resources available for you to share, in whatever way you are working with families, including:

  • Free factsheets full of bite-sized facts and safety tips
  • Illustrated prompt cards with accompanying workshop outlines to kick off virtual discussions with parents
  • A colourful poster to add to your displays
  • Five factsheets translated into five languages – Urdu, Bengali, Arabic, Polish and Punjabi – for speakers of English as an additional language

CAPT’s information pack offers an at-a-glance overview of the week.
You can also sign up to receive the latest news and updates on what’s available.
